Rev. James Bhagwan

Pacific Conference of Churces

Rev. James Bhagwan is the General Secretary of the Pacific Conference of Churches – 32 members churches and 10 national councils of churches across 18 Pacific Island States and territories – accounting for some 80 percent of

the Pacific’s human population. Ordained minister of the MethodistChurch in Fiji, licensed to preach & celebrate the sacraments in the Anglican Diocese of Polynesia. Married to Maelin Pickering-Bhagwan with 2 children.

A descendant of indentured laborers from India, has roots in the vanua of Noco in the province of Rewa and maternal links to the vanua of Macuata.

He holds a Bachelor of Divinity in Ecumenical Studies (Hons.) from the Pacific Theological College in Suva, Fiji and a Master of Theology in Christian Social Ethics from the Methodist Theological University in Seoul, South Korea.

He is a passionate advocate for Ecological Stewardship and Climate Justice, with particular focus on Care for the Ocean, Gender Justice, and Self-determination issues.

Keen Stand-Up-Paddler and long-time volunteer chaplain & crew member of the Fijian traditional voyaging canoe, Uto Ni Yalo.
