Akuila Sovanivalu

UNOHCHR

Before joining the UNOHCHR office he was a Monitoring and Evaluation Associate for the Resilience and Sustainable Development team and Senior Outreach Coordinator for the Rights, Cohesion and Human Rights- REACH project at the UNDP Pacific office from 2017-2019.

He has a wide area of expertise in the areas of Youth Development after working for the Ministry of Youth in the Fijian government as Senior Youth officer- Youth Development and Training Unit and in the Research and Development Unit from 2012-2017. Previously, he worked as a Youth Officer from 2010-2012 in the Divisional office where he worked closely with youth- led organization, Civil Society Organization and youth councils and clubs.  Prior to joining the Ministry of Youth he was a school teacher for nine years. 

He has a Master’s in Community Development Leadership from Yonsei University, South Korea, Post Graduate in International Relations from the University of Fiji and Bachelor in Education from the University of the South Pacific.
